TOFI

ndonesia Physics Olympiad Team (TOFI) was pioneered by two doctoral students in the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg VA, USA in 1993. Yohanes Surya and Agus Ananda, the two students, had a vision to advance physics education in Indonesia.

They took an initiative to prepare a team of Indonesian students to participate in the 24th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held at the College of William and Mary. This effort was rewarded with a bronze medal and a honorable mention. This was the beginning of TOFI. Since then, Indonesia has been participating in the annual IPhO competition with ever-increasing achievement. To date, we have secured 13 gold medals, 12 silver, 23 bronze, and 15 honorable mentions.

Every year, TOFI holds a highly competitive process to select five students to compete in the IPhO. In addition, TOFI also sends eight students every year to participate in the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO).

Indonesia was the organizer of the 1st APhO in 2000 and since than has always participated in this olympiad. Since 2004, Indonesia also send a guest team to APhO. In the last few years, we have collected 19 gold medals, 9 silver, 18 bronze and 27 Honourable mentions.

It is TOFI's vision to raise a generation of young, bright Indonesians, capable to contribute in the development of Indonesia in the future, by means of rigorous education in physics as the foundation of today's science and technology.
